It’s hard to not like summer time as an educator. A time to rest and a time to reflect. For me it’s always time to hit the wish list.
I am extremely fortunate to work with such gracious, intelligent and talented colleagues in New York City. One collective I must loudly applaud and have benefited tremendously from is NYCIST (New York City Independent School Technologists). The wealth of knowledge generated by this community about technology and education is astounding. In the past my schools have also benefited from the extraordinary kindness of many NYCIST schools. I’ve been able to procure everything from computers, servers, projectors, monitors, printers, toner, Smartboards, etc.
This year I was fortunate to be on the receiving end of 21 iMac computers from The Churchill School and Director of Technology, Mr. Max Beron. For schools with little tech budgets this kind of generosity goes a long way.
Speaking of donations, in March I was only too happy to accept 2 Dell Servers, a PowerEdge R610 and a 2950 from another generous donor. The servers were wiped clean prior to picking them up so I soon had to get up to speed on how to create proper RAID arrays and install Windows 2012.
A new Minecraft server, why not!
Taking care of more server issues was also on the summer agenda. I was thrilled to get my hands on a Dell KMM (also donated) to make managing multiple servers a heck of a lot easier. On top of this I’m also installing a donated switch and doing some much needed backups to update the schools DRP.
Going to need a vacation when school starts.
Here is a list of notable Hardware Donations I’ve been blessed to acquire to help schools in need.
