With the school year over it was time to make some major changes. The kind of changes you can’t do with a school full of kids and teachers. SSHS is considering a BYOD program starting in the Fall 2013-14 school year. So the first up was installation of a Wireless Full-Scale Wireless Network.
Consolidation of all our servers in the server closet was another Summer menu item. Our file server is now happy in it’s new home.
I consider myself a Robin Hood among school technologists, without the stealing part of course. My school does not have the luxury some of the more high end schools do, so we rely on the goodness of others. Two recent examples from the Summer of 2013 were a donation of 8, 77″ Smartboards and 2 HP 500 Laser Color Printers. Thanks to the Calhoun school and the UNIS school for their generosity.
Another project I am extremely excited about is welcoming MinecraftEDU to our school. I purchased and installed a site license last year and we’re looking to roll it out this year for our students to enjoy and learn from.
As we look to the future we’re extremely excited about the prospects of 3D printing coming to our school soon. On our short wish list is a MakerBot Replicator. Here’s some examples we saw when we visited the MakerBot store in Manhattan.
